Don Augstein began Indigo Wood & Metalworks (IWM)
after owning a successful construction business in the Bay Area for 23 years. His
passion for design and fabricating functional works of art are the inspiration that
brought IWM to life.
Blending a beautiful variety of woods, metals and wonderful color are the
focus. Part of the excitement is creating furniture pieces that are original,
functional, and fit perfectly in their new environment. Don works one on one
with owners from concept to installation. Whether it is cabinets, tables, gates, or
sculptors, IWM's goal is to build unique, well designed products that last a
lifetime.
Don is from the east coast, moved to California in 1970 to attend the
University of the Pacific where he received his BA. After college he worked with
a talented cabinet maker and realized his passion. He opened the doors of
Augstein Construction in 1978 and remodeled some of the finest homes. In 2000
Don decided to change direction, blending his love of art, working with wood
and metal to create Indigo Wood and Metalworks. Don has a shop in Grass
Valley, CA.
